This is where a biblical view of time begins. Not with panic about how little remains, but with the recognition that each day is entrusted. Notice what the Psalmist asks God for: not more days, but wisdom for the days already given. A person merely counting asks "How much time do I have?" A wise person asks "Lord, what have You given me this day to do?"

Human life, even a long one, is brief compared with eternity. Scripture is honest about this without ever being cruel about it. The point is not that your life is worthless but that it is short — and those are opposite claims. Facing the brevity is precisely what stops us from wasting it. And notice that when God promises long life in Psalm 91:16, He treats the salvation as the greater gift.

Scripture never condemns wise preparation. Proverbs praises the ant. What Jesus exposes in this parable is a man who planned his entire future without acknowledging God, trusted wealth instead of God, and stored treasure for himself while never becoming rich toward God. Time becomes dangerous the moment we live as though we own it. We do not own time — we steward it.

Before you can steward time rightly you have to know why you were given it. God created mankind in His image — to reflect His character and represent His rule on the earth. Adam and Eve were given purpose, fellowship, responsibility and stewardship. Sin brought death and brokenness into the world, but those were never God's original design for our days.

The body is temporary; eternity is permanent. Scripture treats the body as God's creation, to be honored, but never as our final identity. Every person will stand before God. This is sober truth — and it is exactly why the gospel is such good news. Death does not get the final word over anyone who belongs to Jesus Christ.

This is the hinge of the whole library. English gives us one word for time; Greek gives us two. Chronos is measured duration — the clock, the calendar, your age. Kairos is the appointed season, the decisive opening. When Paul commands "redeeming the time," the word is kairos. That single fact frees a great many anxious believers from a race they were never entered into.

God works in time but is not limited by it. He is never late, never rushed, never confused by delay. The verse about a day and a thousand years is not a conversion formula — Peter tells us one sentence later exactly what it means. Do not judge God's goodness by the speed of His answers.

Many people carry real sorrow over years they believe were wasted — to sin, rebellion, fear, poor decisions, sickness, or seasons stolen by injustice. Joel 2:25 was spoken to people who had watched locusts strip everything visible. God promised not merely survival but restoration. He may not reverse every earthly consequence as we imagine, but He can make barren seasons fruitful and the remaining years count.

The world treats waiting as dead time: hurry it, force it, seize control. Biblical waiting is nothing like that. It is active trust, prayer, obedience and dependence. What feels like delay is very often the season in which God builds endurance, wisdom, character and depth that no shortcut could produce.

Paul told the Athenians that God determined the appointed seasons and the boundaries of human habitation. This does not mean human choices are forced or that we bear no responsibility. It means God is sovereign over history and placed you in this generation, this family, this location, deliberately. Do not despise your generation. Ask God how He wants to use you in the time He assigned you.

Children of God are not to sleep spiritually while the world stays distracted by temporary things. Waking up means rejecting laziness, compromise and careless living — refusing to spend your days merely entertained, merely busy, merely anxious, merely offended. Yesterday is under God's mercy. Tomorrow is under God's sovereignty. Today is the place of obedience.

Bodies age, wealth fades, possessions decay, applause disappears, achievements pass. Therefore children of God must invest their time in what has eternal value. You store treasure in heaven when you use your time, gifts, resources, words and opportunities for the glory of God. Every act of love, prayer, generosity, forgiveness, faithfulness and service done in Christ carries eternal weight.
