to render inoperative, to void of authority
The Word at a Glance
G2673 The Revelation
Katargeō (καταργέω)
"...our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death..." The verb katargeō is stronger than "abolished" sounds in modern English. It means to render inoperative, powerless, void of legal authority. Jesus did not merely defeat death — He voided it. He canceled its jurisdiction over you. Death still walks around. It has no badge.
