God's Heart Toward the Returning
You were still rehearsing your apology. He was already running down the road to meet you.
The Scriptures
"And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."
The anchor — the Father runs to meet the returning child.
"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance."
Heaven celebrates the turn.
"Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live."
God's heart is life, not death.
"For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord GOD: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye."
The command that is really mercy.
"Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy."
Mercy is His delight.
"The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance."
His patience is your open window.
The Anchor Verse
Luke 15:20
"And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him."
— KJV
The Father runs. The son was still rehearsing his apology; the father was already sprinting. Repentance doesn't earn His love — it walks you into arms that were already open.
Application
The Father is not standing at the gate with folded arms. While you are still a great way off — still rehearsing the apology — He sees, has compassion, and runs.
Heaven throws a party over one sinner who repents. Your turn back is not met with a lecture; it is met with a celebration.
God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. Every call to turn is really mercy in motion — this is the God you are turning back to.
