Poiēma — You Are God's Poem, Not a Collection of Days

Ephesians 2:10

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." — Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
Ephesians 2:10

Paul says you are God's "workmanship." The Greek word is poiēma (ποίημα, Strong's G4161) — something made, crafted, formed with intention. It is the word the English "poem" comes from.

Sit with that. Not a factory output. Not a statistic. Not an accident of biology and circumstance. A composition — deliberate, worked over, meant.

And a poem is not measured by length. A short one can carry more weight than a thousand pages of noise. Which quietly answers the fear underneath most of our anxiety about time: your life does not need more years to have meaning. It needs the Author.

Look at the rest of the verse. God "before ordained" good works that you should walk in — He prepared them in advance. Which means your days are not empty containers you must scramble to fill. There is already something written for you to step into.

You are not a forgotten person. You are not a meaningless collection of days. You are God's poem — and He is still writing. Read the full word study →
