Shalom — The Hebrew Word That Holds Wholeness, Health, and Nothing Missing
"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." — Philippians 4:7 (NIV)— Philippians 4:7
The Hebrew word שָׁלוֹם (shalom) appears over 230 times in the Old Testament. It is almost always translated as "peace" in English — but that translation captures only a fraction of what the word actually carries.
Shalom comes from the root שָׁלֵם (shalem), which means to be complete, to be whole, to be finished in a way that is good. It describes a state of total flourishing — nothing missing, nothing broken — in every area of a person's life: body, mind, relationships, finances, spirit.
This is not the absence of conflict. This is the presence of God's total well-being installed on the inside.
Isaiah 53:5 says the punishment that brought us peace — shalom — was on Him. Jesus did not just bring calm. He restored what sin had broken: wholeness in every dimension of human life. That is your inheritance as a child of God. Not a quiet life. A whole life.
